A Proud History

The firm was established by the late Brian Bacon in 1998.

Brian Bacon was one of only two patent attorneys in Cape Town when he moved here in the late 1970’s and during the four decades that followed, he truly became a doyen of the Cape Town IP law fraternity.

We have been privileged to practice with him during the last years of his career that ended shortly before his eightieth birthday in 2019.

Brian Bacon is remembered for his range and depth of IP skills, and his unwavering work ethic, but also for his remarkable ability to retain his senses of compassion and humour irrespective of the challenges of the day.

Latest Developments

In 2019 our firm embarked on a number of exciting changes. Most prominent among these, is that we moved offices to Themis Law Chambers in the CBD of Cape Town, where we formed an informal alliance with Themis Legal Advisors (advisors on commercial law) and Hayes Inc. (a law firm focusing on commercial and property law).

The alliance has allowed us to streamline our operations by sharing some office facilities and outsourcing our accounting and support functions to Themis Legal Advisors – freeing us up to focus on our passion – IP law. The alliance also broadens our service offering to include more commercial work and it has drawn us closer to topical legal discussion – helping us stay abreast of legal developments in South Africa more broadly than only IP law.
